Prof. Ravindra rao

Dr Ravindra Rao is a psychiatrist working in the area of substance use disorder. He is a faculty at National Drug Dependence Treatment Center (NDDTC), Department of Psychiatry, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, which is a tertiary level clinical, teaching, and research institute.

Dr Ravindra has completed his MD in Psychiatry from AIIMS, New Delhi. After his senior residency at AIIMS, he worked for three years in the National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India to manage the HIV prevention programmes for Injecting Drug Users. He then worked as a Technical Officer (Drugs and HIV) at United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Regional Office for South Asia, before joining as a faculty in AIIMS. He has assisted in initiation and scale-up of Opioid Substitution Therapy in India as well as other South Asian countries,including Nepal, Bangladesh and Maldives. He has also authored clinical practice guidelines for OST implementation as well as standard operating procedures on OST.

His interests are in the area of Substance Use Disorder in particular, injecting drug use, harm reduction and community based treatment programmes. He is also interested in public health related to mental health and substance use.


Dr. Alok Agrawal

Dr Alok Agrawal is an Assistant Professor at the National Drug Dependence Treatment Center (NDDTC), Department of Psychiatry, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi.

NDDTC, AIIMS is the nodal centre of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India in the field of addiction treatment, teaching, and research.

After pursuing his post-graduate degree in Psychiatry from Department of Psychiatry, AIIMS, New Delhi, Dr Agrawal continued to be engaged with the institute first as a Research Officer in a WHO-funded project and later as a Senior Resident.From 2010 to 2013, he worked as Programme Officer - Injecting Drug Use and Opioid Substitution Therapy at the National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. In this span, Dr Agrawal contributed to the expansion of OST services for IDUs across the country in both NGO sector as well as through Government healthcare facilities including various medical colleges. He played an instrumental role in various initiatives taken to improve the quality of HIV prevention programme for IDUs such as development of training manuals and standard operating procedures, engagement of medical instituted for trainings, accreditation of OST centres by NABH, etc. After a brief stint as Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhopal, he joined AIIMS, New Delhi as faculty in June, 2014.

His primary area of work is Substance Use Disorders and their treatment.

He is particularly interested drug use epidemiology, injecting drug use, harm reduction, treatment of addictive disorders in community and other special settings, etc.


Dr. Biswadip Chatterjee

Dr Biswadip Chatterjee is an Assistant Professor at the National Drug Dependence Treatment Center (NDDTC), Department of Psychiatry, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. NDDTC, AIIMS is the nodal centre of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India in the field of addiction treatment, teaching, and research.

After completing his MD (Psychiatry) from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (New Delhi), he worked as an Assistant professor in Department of Psychiatry at AIIMS, Patna. Subsequent to that, he joined Department of Psychiatry and NDDTC,AIIMS, New Delhi in July 2014. He has various national and international publications to his credit. He has also been the recipient of various awards like first prize for best oral presentation titled “Impact of age at onset on course of Bipolar Disorder - I: A comparative study of early-onset versus adult-onset illness from India” at 13th Congress of ASEAN Federation of Psychiatry & Mental Health; 2012 held in Singapore.

His area of interests include substance use disorder(s) among children, adolescents and women and neurobiology of nicotine and alcohol dependence.

He is working as DTC Coordinator at NDDTC, AIIMS, New Delhi. Under the scheme “Strengthening DDAP.

He was worked as Mental Health Coordinator (Consultant) at the public health of India (P.H.F.I.) from Feb 2016 to October 2016, in collaboration with NHM, Madhya Pradesh, and closely associated with the Schools, Hospitals and other NGOs for proving consultancy services. He was also worked as Assistant Research Officer (Psychologist) at The INCLEN TRUST INTERNATIONAL, New Delhi, from October 2012 to Feb 2016. As Mental Health Professional with four years experience in community-based as well as health system based mental health research and evidence-based intervention related to early childhood development, and common mental health issue under the several projects and a strong background in clinical psychology, health psychology, and computer science with extremely oriented in the area of mental health research and mental health informatics.
